The British government is set to progress with utilizing the total value of frozen Russia's holdings to aid the Ukrainian war effort, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a collective announcement, the leaders of the Britain, France, and Germany asserted that this coordinated action would escalate tension on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and compel Moscow to participate in talks.

They added that the decision would be carried out in close cooperation with the America.

United Kingdom restrictions have frozen more than £25bn of Russia's funds since Russia launched its full-scale invasion against Ukraine in 2022. However, previously, funds provided to the Ukrainian government using Russia's funds had exclusively been sourced from gains and dividends accrued on them.

Sir Keir assured Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and Germany were aligned in their desire to push forward toward utilizing the complete amount of the seized Russian sovereign holdings to conclude the conflict.

He added that further measures in the coming days and weeks would increase the strain on the Russian government.

This declaration comes after European leaders met in Copenhagen last week to discuss using immobilized Russian holdings for a €140bn financial aid to Ukraine.

Recently, US President Donald Trump urged G7 allies to seize or utilize immobilized Russia's funds, as reported by media sources.

The worth of immobilized Russian holdings in the EU is estimated to be approximately €211bn.

Russia executed large-scale bombardments across Ukraine on that day, resulting in blackouts in large parts of Kyiv, the city, and several other zones.

Two people were killed and no fewer than 20 people were wounded in the attack, authorities in Ukraine stated.

In a post on social media after the strike, Zelensky stated that the cynical and calculated attack focused on non-military and power facilities.

"The necessity is not empty words but decisive action - from the United States, Europe, and the seven nations - in delivering air defence systems and applying restrictions," he emphasized.

"Each restrictive measure undermines Russia's war machine," Zelensky declared, in a different message.

Additionally that day, Zelensky told reporters he would press Sir Keir to participate in the Purl program, under which Nato countries buy weapons from the United States to donate to the Ukrainian forces.

While praising the United Kingdom's firm backing for Kyiv, he noted it should demonstrate clearly that it would take part in the initiative, as well as impose further restrictions on Moscow.
