Paceman Atkinson Exacerbates the English team's Injury Concerns.

'Major setback' for the English camp after Atkinson is forced off due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson further complicated the fitness woes of the England squad upon exiting the field during Saturday's play in the Melbourne Test in the Ashes series.

Atkinson experienced discomfort in his hamstring post-delivery in his spell during the morning session.

Team management indicated the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and would spend time away from the action in order to be assessed "during the day".

The concluding match in this Ashes battle at the SCG gets underway this coming Sunday.

The visitors have previously lost fast bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer to a side strain on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was called up to provide backup.

Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was dropped of the third Test, before being recalled for the Boxing Day match as Archer's replacement.

Atkinson improved at the MCG, bagging two scalps in Australia's first innings, before adding 28 as a batsman being one of only three England players to reach double figures.

After bowling one over in Australia's second innings, he returned for the second day's play and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

However, on the final ball of his spell, he sent down a change of pace to Travis Head and promptly felt at his leg.

Atkinson returned to the side for the Melbourne match having missed the previous Test.
