Her Royal Highness's Annual Christmas Carol Concert Honours Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will enjoy a mix of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

A Theme of Compassion and Love

The focus of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the festive gathering.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to public life following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Performance and Potential

Guests arriving at the Abbey can listen to budding artists backed by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from southwest Wales, has been assisted by the charity, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now enrolled at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.

A Sisterly Duo

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who is a euphonium player, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to generate funds for food banks.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
