The winter transfer window is typically a period of intense rumour and potential major transfers. Several high-profile footballers are being connected to moves out of their current clubs. We examine some of the major figures who could be changing clubs in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite Ghana's failure to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, which has kept the forward available, indications are a major transfer is close. The 25-year-old has a deal with a substantial release clause applicable for a brief period in early January. Latest reports indicate Manchester City have emerged as his services. Former suitors such as Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly have moved on to alternative targets, leaving teams such as Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a late bid.

Marc Guéhi

This English centre-back has excel for Crystal Palace this season a previous transfer to Anfield falling through. With his deal set to expire in the close season, January is the club's final opportunity to secure a fee for their skipper. A host of elite clubs, such as Manchester City and several European giants like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, are believed to be interested. However, a winter exit is considered unlikely, especially given the manager's dependence on the player.

Brennan Johnson

The Wales winger has had starting opportunities limited at Spurs this campaign. Despite finishing as the club's top scorer the previous campaign, Johnson has started just a handful of Premier League matches. It is understood the London outfit would be open to a sale for the correct price, believed to be in the region of forty million pounds. The Cherries appear to be at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also credited with an interest.

Tottenham value the Welsh international at around £40m.

Rúben Neves

The Portugal playmaker could be poised for a return to the Premier League after a spell in Saudi Arabia. Still just 28, while his contract expiring in the summer, he represents a possible bargain. Clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked with the former Wolves man. Additionally, there have been suggestions from Spanish media that he is prepared to accept a pay cut for a switch to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

The experienced Germany goalkeeper is now as the third option at Barcelona under new manager Hansi Flick. Having lost his place and undergone an operation, a January exit looks highly probable. Aston Villa were once mentioned as a possible destination, but that move currently seems unlikely. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are thought to be showing curiosity in the keeper.

I. Toney

This proven England striker has continued finding the net frequently in the Middle East. Coming back to the Premier League could enhance his fading hopes of being in the England squad. But, securing a transfer presents significant challenges. Al-Ahli do not wish to sell him, and his reported huge salary render any agreement difficult. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton are all linked as admirers.

The striker was instrumental as his Saudi club to victory in the domestic cup final.

Conor Gallagher

This dynamic midfielder drew considerable interest in the summer but stayed at Atlético. With limited starts in La Liga this term, he is keen to secure more playing time ahead of the tournament. H. Elliott

Despite excelling and winning the best player award at the U21 Euros last summer, this young player has found it tough for game time during his loan spell at Aston Villa. Unai Emery has confirmed the loan move won't be made permanent. Due to specific rules about playing for two clubs in a season, a move back to his parent club prior to next season appears to be the sole available solution.

K. Yildiz

The highly-rated Turkish forward has been in excellent form for the Italian giants this term. As his current contract running down, a host of Premier League clubs – including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are monitoring the developments. The Turin club are desperate to tie down the youngster to a lengthy contract but are in a battle to retain one of Europe's most promising prospects.

Kees Smit

The much-admired Netherlands midfielder has earned parallels to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. After impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has become a regular in the AZ first team. This 19-year-old is heavily expected to complete a big-money move in January. Newcastle are believed to be frontrunners, but could face stiff competition from the Spanish champions for a deal priced at around twenty-two million pounds.
