British tennis star Emma Raducanu concludes her season and has decided to continue with her coach into the 2026 season.
Emma Raducanu made it to the third stage in three out of four Grand Slams this year.
Britain's Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the last two tournaments this season as a result of a medical condition she has been battling in recent days.
The 22-year-old was scheduled to compete in Tokyo and Hong Kong but opted to return home to regain her health before starting her preparations for 2026.
Those preparations will involve trainer Francisco Roig, as both individuals will keep partnering for the upcoming season.
Raducanu underwent blood pressure monitoring during her first-round match against Ann Li in Wuhan last week and stopped playing when losing 6-1 4-1 on a day with extreme humidity.
She again required a doctor's assessment at the Ningbo Open this week, where she lost in three sets to local wildcard Zhu Lin in the first round.
She was also playing noticeably restricted in the deciding set versus Zhu due to back discomfort that has been a concern on several occasions in 2025.
Such performances signaled a promising season, in which Raducanu rose into the international top 30 after a long gap for the first time since 2022, concluded with three straight losses.
The athlete was close to victory with three match points before losing to American player Jessica Pegula in round three in the Beijing tournament last month.
The player achieved 28 victories during 2025 and made it to the semi-final round in the Washington tournament, but her standout performance was at the Miami Open in March.
As Britain's top player made the last eight of the WTA 1000 event, defeating eighth seed Emma Navarro on the way before losing in three sets to the world number four Pegula.
She worked with trainer Mark Petchey between Miami and Wimbledon, with Francisco Roig stepping in in time for the US Open.
The original arrangement with the ex-coach of Rafael Nadal was for the remainder of the year but they will keep working together, with planned training sessions for the end of the year.
The athlete revealed that a three-day test period with Roig after Wimbledon was like a "covert operation" as the meeting was kept under wraps.
She nearly succeeded to overcoming Sabalenka, the world number one at their first tournament together in August's Cincinnati tournament.
Roig was also with Raducanu in New York, where she advanced to round three then falling to Rybakina, champion at Wimbledon in 2022.
